The Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia (CHSV) will present a lecture on Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient Joshua Chamberlain at the historic Magnolia Grange House Museum on Saturday, June 20, at noon.

According to local historian Jack Bantle who will present the lecture, “Joshua Chamberlain was a college professor in Maine with no military training when he volunteered during the Civil War for the Union Army.  He reached the rank of Brigadier General and was awarded the Medal of Honor for bravery at Gettysburg.”

At the surrender ceremony for the infantry of Robert E. Lee’s Army at Appomattox Court House, Chamberlain was given the honor of commanding the Union troops.

The lecture at Magnolia Grange is free.  For more information, please call Tamara Evans at 796-1479.
