The Chester Lions Club has elected new officers for the 2015-16 year. During their only June meeting, the club met at Meadowbrook Country Club for the installation of those officers. Joey McCaffrey from the Hopewell Lions did his usual outstanding job with the actual installation per the Lions’ international guidelines.
The guest speaker was Dr. Ivan Perkinson, twin brother of Dr. W. Baxter Perkinson of Richmond. Ivan’s doctorate is from a seminary, while his twin’s is in dentistry. Ivan was an absolute delight and shared his life story and art with the Lions and their guests. Ivan retired twice, first as a professional speaker and marketing consultant, having logged over three million air miles of travel, giving presentations in 49 states. His second retirement was as founding pastor of Matoaca Christian Fellowship with 600 daily radio broadcasts entitled, “An Encouraging Word with Ivan Perkinson.”
Not content with retirement, Ivan has served as the After Care Director for J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Homes since 2003. He has made over seven thousand in-home visits in central Virginia, helping families with the maze of paperwork and procedures necessary to settle the estate of a deceased loved one. Ivan took up painting at age 46. He paints beautiful watercolor scenes from his local area of Lake Chesdin, Matoaca, Ettrick, Swift Creek, etc.
