In another rendition of the Bronco 11 World Series, annually hosted by Chesterfield Baseball Clubs (CBC), the hosting CBC team hoisted the trophy and champions this year. While the home town All-Stars fell short in the final four on Sunday, it was Murietta Valley, California that brought home the second title for The Golden State in three years.

CBC won their first two games of the tournament 8-0 and 6-3. In the first game, CBC pitcher Camden Nuckols dominated Lafayette, Indiana firing a one hit shutout, striking out 15 batters. Josiah Harrison had three hits to lead the club, while catcher Clay Scott drove in two runs.

In game two, CBC defeated the South Texas Legends. Clay Scott pitched a complete game, scattering four hits over seven innings, allowing an earned run and punching out five batters. Harrison, along with Reece Hamilton and Dylan Jones had two hits in the winning effort.

Chesterfield lost their last two games of the tournament in close fashion, falling to Puerto Rico 8-7 on Saturday evening and then to Mexico 4-2 in the tournament semi-finals. CBC led 7-3 heading into the bottom of the 6th, but the Puerto Ricans added four runs in the sixth and walked off in the seventh inning to hand CBC the loss. Nuckols and Jones were the offensive leaders; each had three hits and drove in three and two runs respectively.

In the Final Four, Mexico led CBC 4-1 in the bottom of the 6th. Chesterfield was able to rally to score one run in the 7th, but came up short thanks to a strong pitching performance by Mexico’s Juan Carlos Saloman Pena. Harrison and Scott had two hits a piece in another strong offensive showing for both players.

Chesterfield Baseball Clubs sent four teams to the 58th Boys Invitational Baseball Tournament and have won the last three tournaments, showing the quality of the programs overall. We’ll have full coverage of that tournament in next week’s issue.
