Police Urge Motorists to Avoid Drinking and Driving

The Chesterfield County Police Department is reminding all drivers not to drink and drive. During the month of November, Chesterfield County Police arrested 123 people for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Motorists are reminded to have a designated driver when they have been drinking. If you think you have had too much to drink, you probably have, and you should not get behind the wheel. When you are under the influence of alcohol, your driving skills, including judgment, coordination, and response time, are diminished.

If convicted of driving under the influence, you could face a fine of up to $2,500 and up to a year in jail. That’s in addition to the cost of vehicle towing, civil penalties, court costs and other associated expenses.

Chesterfield County police will continue to identify and arrest drunken drivers through sobriety checkpoints, targeted patrols, and tips from the public.
