Matoaca alum and current Delaware State point guard Devin Morgan had quite the freshman season. So much so, that he took home conference Rookie of the Year honors for the MEAC.

A rebuilding program, the Hornets struggled to a 7-25 record, picking up five conference wins in 16 attempts. Morgan, however is sure to be a building block to the team’s future successes.

The former Warrior led the team in scoring at 12 points per game, also leading Delaware State at three assists per game. Morgan still displayed strong shooting beyond the arc, connecting on 35.4 percent of his three-point attempts.

Known in high school as a clutch player, Morgan continued his last-second heroics at the college level as he hit a three-pointer with five seconds left to guide Delaware State past Norfolk State 67-64 on February 20. Thomas Dale alum Kavon Waller scored 18 points in that contest as well.

Morgan reached the 20 point plateau three times against Morgan St (27 pts), South Carolina St. (21 pts) and Maryland Eastern-Shore (20 pts) and scored a career high 31 points including five of six from three-point land to set a career high against Hampton on February 22. Morgan earned four MEAC Rookie of the Week honors on the year.
