River City Crew, a non-profit youth rowing program will be running three Learn-to-Row camps for rising 8ths thru 11th graders. These are two week, Monday through Friday programs for beginners with no rowing experience. We also have Intermediate/Advanced camps for experienced youth rowers and sculling lessons. Upon completion rowers will be eligible to join our team for the fall and spring seasons.

River City Crew is a non-affiliated coed youth rowing club with rowers from 20 schools in the Richmond area including nine Chesterfield County schools and home school students. RCC competes during the fall and spring seasons in Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships and in the USRowing Youth National Championships.

For many youth, including those for whom traditional sports may have little appeal, Crew can impart upon the rower an identity and lead to life-long friendships. It can be a positive influence in the rower’s life.

Camps are held at Robious Landing Park on the James River. Info on RCC and dates and times of the summer programs can be found on our website: www.rivercitycrew.com or emailing

I have two daughters who currently participate in this program, and they just love it. They have developed amazing friendships across many different grade levels, and have learned so much about their ability to motivate themselves. It has been absolutely life-changing for both my daughters.

Three years ago I signed my children up for the learn to row summer camp. My kids had no experience and were very reluctant, By the third day, they were both HOOKED and are still rowing with the club. River City Crew is an amazing program! It has made a huge and positive impact on my children and for that I am very thankful.

This program has been a lifesaver for my child who is very introverted. She has actually made real friends for the first time in her life! The parents and the athletes are positive and encouraging to one another. Parents support the team with activities, food and sometimes a little first aid. No one person is responsible for taking care of it all. We are a team.
Coach O’Rourke really cares about the kids and it shows. He takes the time to pull kids aside and give them not only positive praise , but constructive criticism. He encourages the kids to try new things and pushes them out of their comfort zone if needed. He has made such a difference in my child’s life and I cannot thank him enough for what he has done for my family!
I would encourage anyone whose child MIGHT be interested to come out for one of the camps and try it out. They really have a good time.

  4. Great youth rowing program! A wonderful team sport! Kids love learning how to row and work together in the boats.

  5. My kids had no experience with rowing, so the summer LTR program was ideal for them to learn if they liked it or not. They both ended up loving it and finding a sport requiring intense fitness and teamwork. So happy with this program!
