ICE CREAM SOCIAL – 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. The Shepherd’s Center of Chesterfield invites the community to their annual ice cream social. This free event is the kickoff to the 2016 Adventures in Learning program. Chester Baptist Church, 4317 School St.

HARVESTING AND USING HERBS IN COLONIAL DAYS – 10 a.m. – Kathy Chain of The Herbs of Happy Hill will discuss the harvesting and uses of herbs during colonial times. Tours of the 1892 Jail and Herb Demonstration Garden at Castlewood (weather permitting). Historical Courthouse Green, Route 10/Iron Bridge Road. WELLNESS FAIR YOUTH FUNDRAISER – 10 a.m. Grace Lutheran Church, 13028 Harrowgate Rd. Fundraiser for back-to-school. Silent auction. Variety of wellness partners.

Gates open at 5 p.m. Bring a picnic; blankets or lawn chairs are recommended; and no alcohol or glass bottles are allowed. Rain date: Sunday, Sept. 11, 6 p.m. at James River High School. YOGA ON THE GREEN FUNDRAISER – 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. 30-minute yoga sessions starting every half hour. 30-plus vendors. Dunking booth, cornhole, kids zone, refreshments. Donations collected to help support Chesterfield Police Foundation.

SEPTEMBER 12

MEADOWDALE BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP – 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. “The Rosie Project” by Graeme Simsion will be discussed. Registration not required.

INTRODUCTION TO 3D PRINTING – 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Central Library. Learn to use computer-aided design (CAD) software to create just about anything, and then print it on their 3D printer. Register online at library.chesterfield.gov.

HUMBLE HEARTS HOST THE FINNEYS – 11:30 a.m. John and Frankie, a husband and wife duo singing Christian country. Webber Baptist Church, 7800 Salem Church Rd. The Humble Hearts meets the second Tuesday of every month.

CHESS CLUB – 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Meadowdale Library. Learn to play chess in a relaxed, stress-free environment, or meet others who enjoy the game. All ages and skill levels are welcome.
