Lions Club thanks community for giving

Chester Lions Club wishes to thank all of the community who donated to their White Cane fund raiser recently. Although it was the first time that they did not reach their goal, that was not because of lack of support from the community. The Lions do get their locations authorized by the retail sites chester-lionswell in advance of their Spring and Fall fundraiser weekends. The Chester Lions get the majority of their funds for the year from those two weekends. All of the money collected at the two White Cane weekends stays in the community and is used for the testing for glasses and hearing aids needed by local residents, and for support of like-minded, local charities. One of those charities is Virginia Voice.

At the Chester Lions’ regular meeting in September, James Wark, Executive Director of Virginia Voice, gave a informative and entertaining lecture on the wonderful work they do in this community. So much of the work (and in this case reading) is done by volunteers and a very small staff. The special radios they provide are expensive, but there is no charge to those individuals who would not otherwise be able to keep up with current events and newsworthy items of interest. Through generous contributions from the community, Virginia Voice continues this tremendous service to Richmond and the surrounding area.
