CHESTER. – The community is invited to join John Tyler Community College’s faculty, staff, and students as they honor past and present members of the armed services during the College’s annual Veterans Day ceremony on Friday, Nov. 11. The ceremony will begin at 11a.m. in Bird Hall, room B124, at the Chester Campus, located at 13101 Jefferson Davis Hwy.

This year’s ceremony will include a keynote address by U.S. Navy veteran Dr. Danny Barnes. During his more than 13-year career in the U.S. Navy, Barnes served as a surface warfare officer, cryptologist, and cryptologic mathematician, and was deployed to the Southern Pacific Ocean, the Persian Gulf, the Mediterranean Sea, and Somalia. In March 2001, he was medically discharged from the U.S. Navy. After Sept. 11, 2001, Barnes began working in the defense industry, where he was employed as an intelligence analyst and IT professional at the National Security Agency, the Defense Intelligence Agency, the Central Intelligence Agency, and the Department of the Treasury. Barnes is now following what he calls his true passion – education. He is the associate program director for the School of Computer Science and IT at Stratford University and an assistant professor for Cyber Security and Computer Informatoion Systems at Hampton University. He also works as a cyber security/IT consultant through Absolute Veritable Solutions, a firm he founded in 2004. Barnes holds a Bachelor of Applied Mathematics with an emphasis on Nuclear Engineering from Hampton; a Masters in Mathematics with an emphasis in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and Aero-dynamics from Hampton; and a doctorate in information systems and communications from Robert Morris University.

In addition to Barnes’ address, Tyler’s Veterans Day ceremony will include recognition of Tyler’s faculty, staff, and student veterans and also a memorial tree planting.
