Lions Club annual Bland Music Scholarship competition

The Hopewell Lions Club will hold their annual Bland Music Scholarship Competition March 26, 2 p.m. at Powers Memorial Baptist Church in Hopewell.

Yamaha-YTR-2335-TrumpetThere will be two divisions: vocal and instrumental. Prizes the local level will be $100 for first place winners and $50 for second place winners. First place winners in each division will compete at the District Contest, date and location to be announced soon. Prizes will also be awarded at district levels. District winners will compete in the State Contest, which will be held during the State Lions Convention, date and location to be announced.

Top prize at the State Contest is a $2,500 music scholarship.

The contest will be limited to students living or going to school in Hopewell, Petersburg, Colonial Heights, Chester, counties of Prince George and Dinwiddie, and southern Chesterfield County. The contest is open to all students, public, private, and home schooled through grade 12.
The press release states: “Our contest is a valuable experience for the students. We will have experienced and knowledgeable judges to score the students and give them detailed evaluations of their performance, plus there is the opportunity to advance to the State Contest and secure significant scholarships.”
