TDHS soccer headed to state

Brayan Cedillo got a head of steam, made a brilliant run down the field and passed to Chris Kuda, who booted the ball in the back of the net.

A jubilant celebration ensued.

Thomas Dale High School had made it back to the state tournament with a dramatic overtime victory over Colonial Forge, 2-1.

“The lads did everything I could have asked of them,” coach Griff Fowler said.

This win came on the heels of a 5-1 victory over Franklin County that saw Kuda, Garrett Graves, Carlos Padilla, Hawkins Adcock and Emmanuel Oyewole score goals.

Then came a matchup for the region championship with Cosby, a game the Knights lost 1-0. Just a couple of weeks ago, they had defeated the Titans 1-0. The loss meant a first round matchup on the road in states.

“In both games, they were tough battles and each had fine margins,” Fowler said. “We looked a little tired in the second game and probably gave them too much time and space, but full credit to them. In the end, they got the break and locked the game down well,” he said of Cosby.

The Knights traveled to First Colonial Tuesday for the first round of the state tournament. Should Thomas Dale win, they will be just two wins from a state championship. Stay tuned for more updates in the Village News.
