Three Matoaca athletes have been offered roster spots on Division III rosters.
Brendan Gray and Jimmy Hayden were given offers by North Carolina Wesleyan, while Gage Simmons attracted the attention of Bridgewater.
In 2019, Gray rushed for 105 yards on offense, but stood out more on defense, finishing fourth on the team with 36 tackles and tallying three quarterback sacks.
Hayden was an even bigger impact player on defense, placing second on the team with 63 tackles and 3 1/2 sacks.
Simmons was an All-Region performer in 2018, but tore his ACL on the first play in Matoaca’s first game of the season. Despite that, the Eagles are still interested in his services. Simmons did most of his damage at wide receiver and kick returner, where he earned honors.
