Every year, schools submit two athletes (one boy and one girl) who made an outstanding contribution to the school both through athletics and academics.

Jordan Carpenter

Matoaca’s girls’ basketball star, Jordan Carpenter, has been nominated for the Lexus of Richmond Leadership Award, one of the most prestigious scholarships in the area. Her work on and off the court was impressive this season and is now being recognized in other ways. She was honored on Fox Richmond on both Friday and Sunday.

Athletically, Carpenter helped lead her team to an incredible regular season, with a record of 20-3. She averaged a double-double with 11.5 points and 12.9 rebounds per game. Her lockdown defense led to more offense, as she had 4.7 steals and 5.2 blocks. She earned honors for second team All-State.

Her athletic ability did help a lot, but it’s not the only reason she was nominated for this award.

Academically, she had a 4.5 GPA and earned All-Academic honors for the regional team. Her work inside the classroom also drives her on the way to the next level.

Carpenter has signed to play basketball at Mary Washington in Fredericksburg.
