Thomas Dale High School proudly presents the musical Carousel on May 16-18 at 7 p.m. Thomas Dale High School is home to Chesterfield County’s Specialty Center for the Visual and Performing Arts and is located at 3626 W. Hundred Road in Chester. Thomas Dale’s full blown production is a collaboration between the theatre, music and dance departments.

Chester Lions to hold White Cane May 3, 4

Members of the Chester Lions Club will be participating with their White Cane Days event on Friday and Saturday, May 3-4 at Walmart and Kroger in Chester. White Cane Days is a semi-annual fund raiser to help the community with the sight conservation needs, primarily providing eye exams and glasses for the needy.

Senior Idol completion set for May 17

Tickets are now on sale for the Shepherd’s Center 2013 Senior Idol Competition which will be held on Friday, May 17 at 7 p.m. at Victory Tabernacle Church located at 11700 Genito Rd. in Midlothian. The Senior Idol features 12 talented seniors, 50 years of age and older, competing for a cash prizes of $300, $200 and $100 respectively.

Enon Elementary to celebrate its 75th birthday

Enon Elementary School opened in 1938 and will celebrate 75 years of education on May 3. To get ready for the birthday celebration, students are exploring Enon Elementary’s rich history and creating projects to display. They are also rehearsing for a schoolwide concert that will include music from the 1930s to the present. The concert will be presented at 9:45 a.m. and at 1:55 p.m. May 3.

Chester Rotary’s Grillin’ on the Green is back May 9

The Rotary Club of Chester will host its BBQ Cook-off Competition on Thursday, May 9 from 5 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. on the Chester Village Green.

Chester Garden Club is hosting Garden Glimpses which opens five exquisite private gardens in Chester to the public. Ticket holders can walk through the gardens at their leisure from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 5 and see and experience different styles of gardens - a cottage garden, a full sun garden, a shade garden filled with many tall trees, a garden with a sloping lot, and a combination sun and shade garden.

Emmy-winning violinsit Mark Wood returns for performance at TDHS

World-renowned electric violinist and Emmy award winning composer Mark Wood will perform with 200 student members of the Orchestra, Chorus and Band in a concert, May 4, at Thomas Dale High School in Chester. Wood will be in residence at Thomas Dale May 3-4 and will lead rehearsals and workshops on professional music skills.
