D Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. For the holidays, I made plans to visit my oldest daughter and her husband in North Carolina, and for good measure, I also made arrangements for daughter number two and her son to fly in from Knoxville. My flight was rather uneventful; my first flight got out the gate about 20 minutes late, but by the time we landed we were back online. Of course, the flight was full, and I got the last seat in the back of the plane, next to the toilet. I had no…

Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. If you remember from a recent article, I was recovering from an accident that put my poor Betsy in the repair shop. It was not a surprise that my insurance decided it was not worth the effort to patch her back up; I was not surprised, since she was born in 2004 and had lived over 257,000 miles. However, I was surprised by my insurance company. Before they had determined the dollars involved in fixing old Betsy back up, they told me that I could rent a car. They…

Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. As I mentioned in my last article, I did some traveling by plane to visit my daughters over the holidays. As you know, you are not allowed to board the plane when you want to; you must follow a very precise process which starts with a loading number that is assigned to your ticket. The flight I was on had nine levels, of which 1-5 were considered “special” loading. This generally represents first class, military, silver class members, etc. Then they get to the final numbers 6 to 9.…

Hello and welcome back to the New Year Dogpound, and welcome to 2019! Wow! Another year under our belt, and where do I start? As I have mentioned before sometimes, it is difficult to decide what to write about. In this case, do I recap 2018 or do I go out on the limb and predict what the new year will bring? Then it hit me. I had a car accident. My poor Betsy (a Honda CR-V) got smacked on the driver’s side by a huge Chevy truck that is at least three times the size of Betsy! Last Saturday,…

Hello and welcome back to the holidays in the Dogpound. I have to admit I made a bit of a boo-boo. I thought I was behind a week, but in actuality I was ahead a week, so please accept a belated Merry Christmas! Hope you got everything you wished for. The weekend before New Year’s Day, I will be flying to North Carolina to visit my oldest daughter and her husband, while my other daughter will be flying in from Knoxville with her son so we can spend a few days together. I did get to do one special thing…

Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. December means Christmas and college football bowl games! I counted 39 games that will be played. These began Dec. 15 and continue until the national championship Jan. 7, 2019. Of course, there the familiar bowl names: Cotton, Sugar, Peach, Orange and Rose bowls. (My OSU Buckeyes face Washington in the latter Jan.1). There are some bowls that may be unfamiliar. You can go to the Redbox Bowl in Santa Clara, Calif., if you are in the mood for a movie, or if you want to dress up and party,…

Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. So have you finished eating all of your turkey? Me neither, but I am closing in on the final meal. I cooked my turkey on the Sunday after Thanksgiving, and the following Monday night I had the typical Thanksgiving meal along with a glass of wine and a piece of cherry pie with ice cream. Tuesday I decided to change things up a bit and made a turkey casserole. I had chicken rice mix left-over in the cupboard, so I put shredded turkey in the bottom of a dish,…

Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. We are officially in the last month of 2018; where has the time gone? Hope you had a nice long Thanksgiving weekend. I had one down side to the weekend, I got a touch of the gout. Usually I get it in my right toe once or twice a year, mainly because I cracked it many years ago. This time however, I got it on my left foot, right below the big toe joint. It was kind of painful for a few days, so I drank a lot of…

Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. I am writing this on Thanksgiving morning, and this holiday did not get off to a good start. I woke up early this morning, and there was no electric power. I don’t think it was off very long, but it did make for a chilly morning. However, the sun is out now, and it is shaping up to be a very nice day. Is it me, or do you agree that the Thanksgiving holiday seems to get shorted compared to the holidays that preceded it, Halloween and the holiday…

Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the thankful Dogpound. Hard to believe it is Thanksgiving already, and it is even harder to imagine that we even have a Thanksgiving considering that the Pilgrims barely made it through the first few years after they landed at Plymouth Rock. They left in September of 1620, and it took 66 days of sailing on a cramped Mayflower to reach their destination. That winter they had to stay on the ship, and by spring almost half of the crew and passengers had died. The first harvest was successful with the help…
