Amendments to the Chesterfield County Code of Ordinances will help residents and businesses save money in tax year 2017. The changes were adopted by the Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors Wednesday following public hearings on each amendment. More than 700 small businesses in Chesterfield County will benefit from a change which permits businesses with less than $300,000 in gross receipts to pay a flat $10 fee for business license tax, rather than industry classification tax rates. CHESTERFIELD – Chesterfield County received more than 6,200 responses to its recent community priorities survey through the “Build Chesterfield’s Blueprint” campaign. This survey campaign reached out to residents and businesses to see what they felt was important in their community, and to solicit ideas to be implemented into the budgeting process in the future. CHESTERFIELD – Chesterfield County intends to apply for funds allocated for the Transportation Alternatives Program to improve or add to projects involving actual road building. CHESTER – The Chesterfield Center for the Arts has a new donor Dr. and Mrs. Baxter Perkinson Jr. stepped up to help the Center move closer to its goal. Chesterfield is buying into the idea of pedestrian access for citizens across the county. Old Centralia Road is slated for a sidewalk from Castlebury Drive to Glen Oaks Court. Sidewalks have already been constructed on Cogbill, Osborne, and Harrowgate roads. Old Centralia and Osborne roads have had partial sidewalks for years, but they end abruptly; some calling them sidewalks to nowhere. But a movement inspired by safety, health issues, and connectivity is driving the need for more pedestrian amenities. The Old Centralia Road sidewalk when completed will be about a half mile. The Chesterfield County School Board on July 12 adopted a prototype design for the four elementary schools that will be built in the next 32 months. Using the same design for multiple schools will save money and time as Chesterfield County Public Schools moves forward to build a new elementary school (Creekside) in the Midlothian District and build replacements for Beulah, Enon, and Matoaca elementary schools.
