Spring is in full swing, and along with allergies it brings us longer days, warmer temperatures, and the perfect time to plant for summer. The Lashley family has always been ambitious when it comes to gardening (notice I did not say successful). We plant at least 12 tomato plants every year, along with cucumbers, peppers, potatoes, herbs, cantaloupes, watermelons, and strawberries. We love the thought of growing our own food, and we are big on canning. Unfortunately, last year was a huge disappointment. Our tomatoes were scraggly at best, producing just enough for our family to eat. The cucumbers were…

Ferdinand Meyer V. President, Federation of Historical Bottle Collectors, www.peachridgeglass.com, found this example of a bottle which would have contained “Winfree’s Aromatic Stomach Bitters” Henry N. Winfree (H. N. Winfree is embossed on the Chester bottles), born 1853, is our most likely suspect. It is well known in the Chester area that the Winfree or Yellow House was almost dead center of the Chester Station conflict during the Civil War. Bensley’s Miller-Taylor brings out imagination in students The imagination runs wild thinking about how a kindergarten class might be to manage, much less teach. You may think it would be like herding cats. But it takes the right teacher, and many kindergarten teachers enjoy working with the clean slate that is the kindergarten mind. The structure is much different in kindergarten. Just as we saw with some of the other teachers in this series, teachers blend new ideas into the traditional curriculum. Jen Miller-Taylor keeps her class of five-and-six-year-olds moving from station to station working on projects that can be…
