BENSLEY – Elvis lives! Sorta. Seniors at Bensley Community Center recently got to experience an afternoon with Elvis tribute artist, Wrenn Mangum. It was a musical step into the past, and the audience loved it. Bensley Community Center hosted the potluck luncheon Aug. 15. CHESTER – Richmond-based artist, muralist, and writer Mickael Broth has received international acclaim for his “dancing” Bernie Sanders mural in Richmond. It was seen by over 1.5 million viewers on Imgur in less than a week and was shared widely through social media. Last week he was onsite at Henricus Historical Park donating his time and talents painting on a much smaller canvas to support the Henricus Children’s Education Fund. CHESTERFIELD  – Although the Asian longhorned beetle (ALB) has not been found in Virginia, the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) encourages residents to check for this invasive pest by looking for signs in their trees and firewood transported from other states. To minimize further spread of the beetle, VDACS advises residents who see signs of the ALB to document, capture, and report the insect to VDACS or the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA APHIS). CHESTERFIELD – Brenda White, General Manager of the Chesterfield County Fair, said she is excited about this year’s fair, not because there are more rides on the midway, because of the fried Oreos, or because of the contest for largest pumpkin. The list of performances and activities is what makes second year manager White, smile ear to ear. “I started on the Board of Directors in 2011 as the Pageant Director,” she said. Dedication and loyalty are the two words that come to mind when members of the Chesterfield County Fair Association think of Mary Chalkley. As a life-long resident of the area, Mary’s roots are well established in Chesterfield. Mary Perkinson Chalkley was born in 1937, the tenth of eleven children born to Daniel and Annie Perkinson. She was raised on a farm in Matoaca, attended Ettrick Elementary School, and graduated from Thomas Dale High School in 1955. Mary’s mom was a 4-H leader for 38 years, oversaw 4-H displays at the fair, and fostered Mary’s association with the fair. One year…

CHESTERFIELD —On behalf of the Rotary Club of Chester, Dr. Sam Galstan presented Brian Galusha, assistant scoutmaster of Boy Scouts of American Troop 819, with a $ 1,000 check August 9. Troop 819 was founded in 1932, and is one of the oldest BSA Troops in the area. The troop is more than 84 years old, and has been generously sponsored by St. John’s Episcopal Church in Chester for the troop’s entire history.  Through the years, several hundred young men have come through the troop and learned valuable life, community, and leadership skills.  Both of Galstan’s sons, Bailey and Berkeley, are Eagle…
