The Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia (CHSV) will present a family-friendly drop-in event at the County Museum on Saturday, April 16. Stop by anytime between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to learn about the camp life of Union and Confederate soldiers, and their uniforms, equipment, food, military drills and pastimes. While the event is free, donations are welcome. The County Museum is located at 6813 Mimms Loop, on Chesterfield’s historic 1917 Courthouse Green along Route 10/Iron Bridge Road. CHESTER, VA – Only months away from breaking ground, the Chesterfield Center for the Arts, to be located on Centre Street adjacent to the Chester Library, is looking forward to a grand opening projected to be in the fall of 2017. Clark Kent, Wolverine, Supergirl, zombies, an alien, and pirates could be seen roaming Meadowdale Library at last weekend’s Comic Con event. The event tickled the imagination, inspired and promoted creativity. “The planning starts in the summer before the event,” said Kate Denwiddie, one of the organizers of the event, “It takes about nine months to plan.” In its fourth year the local Comic Con event is one of many in cities across the country. The first morning class of 2016 for Chesterfield popular Community Emergency Response Team, or CERT, training is scheduled to begin April 5. The classes will be held each Tuesday morning over eight consecutive weeks, 8:30 a.m. until 12 p.m., at Woodlake Swim and Racquet Club. Topics include light-duty search and rescue, fire safety and suppression, basic and advanced emergency care, terrorism awareness, emergency communications and disaster psychology. While the humid heat of summer is ablaze, Chester native Sarah Perkinson will board a plane, embarking on an 11-month trip that will take her around the world. Back in October of 2015, Perkinson, a graduate student at Liberty University majoring in elementary and secondary education, applied to be a participant of the World Race, a program through Adventures in Missions. Her hopes quickly became reality when she was accepted just two days after submitting her application. Come August of this year, Perkinson will travel to West Africa, visiting the Ivory Coast, Ghana, and Burkina Faso, to Asia, where she…

Bermuda Baptist Church will hold an Easter Sunrise Service on the bluff at Henricus Park, located at 251 Henricus Park Rd., Chester Va 23836. The Chesterfield County School Board announced today its unanimous selection of Goochland County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. James F. Lane, a former Chesterfield County school administrator, as the next superintendent of Chesterfield County Public Schools. Lane’s appointment, which is scheduled to be voted on tonight by the School Board, is effective July 1. Superintendent in Goochland since 2012, Lane recently was named the 2016 Region 1 Superintendent of the Year by the Virginia Association of School Superintendents and is a finalist for the 2017 Virginia Superintendent of the Year. A war between Chesterfield residents and a large black bird that weighs between four to five pounds with a wingspan of five feet has been ongoing since 1999. Mainly, users of the Dutch Gap Boat Landing have seen black vultures overrun the area and wreak havoc on their vehicles. In their most recent attempt to disperse the vultures, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Virginia Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF) officials have hung dead vulture carcasses from light poles around the Dutch Gap Boat Landing.
