The Chesterfield County Fair, in conjunction with the Virginia Egg Council, sponsored a dessert recipe contest on Saturday, Aug. 29 during the 102nd Chesterfield County Fair. Any type of dessert could be entered as long as it was made with at least six eggs. There were 17 desserts entered for judging all which looked scrumptious. The judges were very thorough in their examination and tasting of each dessert – a job they really enjoyed. Ashbury Memorial United Methodist Church, 7151 Belmont Rd., Chesterfield. will hold a community outreach program on Saturday, Oct. 17 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. There will be a bazaar with many crafts, country store, barbecue, lunch, bake sale and much more. There will also be yard sale items and fall-festival-type events with fire engines, police with safety tips, moon bounce and face painting for children. Vendors wanted. Everyone is welcome. Tim Hair to perform a free concert at the Village Green Saturday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m. Tim Hair has been performing as a Tim McGraw tribute artist for 15 years. Hair performed a Tim McGraw show at Canobie Lake Amusement Park in Salem, New Hampshire. He has doubled for Tim McGraw and in 2014 he joined Tim McGraw on stage at a concert in Raleigh, North Carolina and sang with McGraw before 26,000 people. Hair has performed all over the east coast. According to data released by the Virginia Department of Education, 91 percent of Chesterfield County Public Schools students who entered ninth grade in 2011 graduated in four years. The school division’s on-time graduation percentage topped the state average of 90.5 percent. Fifty-six percent of Chesterfield County’s class of 2015 graduated with a more rigorous advanced studies diploma, according to VDOE records. The school division’s percentage topped the state average of 52 percent. In Chesterfield home sales were down in August from June, the strongest month this year. June boasted 631 units sold while August was down at 461 yet still the strongest month other than June. August home sales in Virginia were 5.26 percent higher year-over-year, while median sales price remained fairly stable. Both number of sales and sales prices decreased from July to August. Sales and prices decrease seasonally beginning in July and continue to decrease through the beginning of the following year.
