CHESTERFIELD — Are you interested in training that will better prepare you for disasters and emergencies? Chesterfield County’s popular Community Emergency Response Team training is scheduled to begin Tuesday, Oct. 2. The initial training course teaches basic emergency response skills that are essential in the critical moments after a disaster, before first responders arrive. Classes are held each Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for eight weeks. Registration is available at chesterfield.gov/CERT. CHESTERFIELD COUNTY — The Chesterfield County Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded late Thursday night, at 11:02 p.m. to the 3000 block of Woodworth Rd to the report of a house fire. Fire crews arrived to find a brick ranch-style home with heavy fire involvement. It took fire crews about an hour to get the fire under control. The house suffered significant damage and one occupant received a minor injury but was not transported to the hospital. CHESTER – Winds played havoc with area residents and their homes last week. A six-year-old boy died as a result of injuries sustained after a tree fell onto his bed at about 2 a.m. Friday, March 2. Chesterfield Police confirmed that Anthony Hamilton died later that day after being transported to a hospital. Cindy Marshall, a spokeswoman from the Chesterfield Fire Marshal’s Office, said 11 units responded to 820 Cliffside Drive. The Chesterfield County Department of Fire and EMS celebrated the opening of their state-of-the-art fire training tower at the Enon Fire Training Center last Thursday. The seven-story training tower capable of simulating live fire using a computer-controlled, propane-fueled training system and will provide firefighters with different training opportunities, such as fighting live fire in multi-story buildings and simulating emergencies in hotels, office buildings, garden apartments, and industrial complexes.
