Longtime Chesterfield firefighter David Creasy died Oct. 15 after a four-year battle with cancer. Creasy served the community for 50 years. He joined the fire service in 1968 as a volunteer with the Manchester Volunteer Fire Department. In 1971, he went to work for the Richmond Bureau of Fire and was assigned to Truck Company No. 3. Creasy left Richmond in 1974 for a career position with the Chesterfield Fire Department. During his 28-year career with Chesterfield Fire and EMS, he worked in nearly every aspect of the department. The Chesterfield County Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred on Third Avenue adjacent to the Virginia State University campus at 1:55 a.m. Sunday. Officers responded to a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The man was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries and was in stable condition Sunday. According to police, two groups were at an event at VSU’s Daniels Gym. There was some sort of altercation. The victim’s group stayed at the event. The other group left prior to the event ending. The suspects then observed…

A ‘dog box’ and cooler were recently stolen from a firefighter’s pickup. On Thursday, Oct. 11, a firefighter with Enon Volunteer Fire Department was busy working when she discovered that she was the victim of theft. Around midnight between running calls, the firefighter went to her truck and discovered that her dog box, along with a pink Yeti Roadie 20 cooler, was stolen from the back of the truck. A felony charge was dismissed last month against a woman who allegedly aborted her unborn child during the third trimester and buried it in the backyard of a residence in north Chesterfield. The Chesterfield Commonwealth Attorney’s office filed a motion Sept. 13 dismissing the charge against Michelle Frances Roberts, 45. Roberts was arrested March 29, 2017 and charged with “illegally causing an abortion or miscarriage” on Sept. 1, 2015 at 6219 Philbrook Road, which is south of Route 150 and east of Hopkins Road. After being unanimously turned down July 25 by the Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors on its request for a permit to use a rock quarry as a landfill, the owner of the landfill, Shoosmith Bros. Inc., recently filed another lawsuit against the county in Chesterfield Circuit Court. Shoosmith’s attorney, Andrea Wortzel, filed the suit Aug. 21. Sirens wailing, red or blue lights flashing: what is happening? Now the general public can check for themselves thanks to an upgrade on the county’s website, the first since 2009. “The idea was developed as several departments in the region prepared for radio encryption,” said Elizabeth Caroon, spokesman for Chesterfield County Police Department. “We saw this as a good way to keep the public informed about real-time police activities once radio traffic was encrypted.
