Editor: Chester United Methodist Church has done it again! This past weekend they cut down “The Village Oak,” which had stood on the side of Harrowgate Road for hundreds of years and was listed on the National Register of Famous and Historic Trees. This tree was examined by an arborist (not to be confused with a tree-cutting service the church relied on) and by the current county extension agent and other experts who all agreed the tree did not need to be cut. On Sunday, Sept. 2, 2018, Matthew Paul Brown, son, brother, father, uncle and cousin, passed away suddenly at the age of 49. Police have arrested a man who allegedly assaulted a child at a residence on Grand Oaks Forest Circle in Chester Aug. 14. At about 7:30 p.m. Aug. 15, police responded to the residence for reported child abuse. The investigation indicates that on Aug. 14, Carlus A. Tucker Jr., 25, intentionally suffocated an infant girl for an unknown period of time. When the child’s mother became aware of the assault Aug. 15, she called police. It looks as if a Chester man will spend the rest of his life in prison for killing his wife and two others on Thanksgiving night 2017. Chesterfield Circuit Court Judge T.J. Hauler last week sentenced Christopher Gattis, 59, to 100 years in prison with 45 suspended for each of three murder convictions that will run concurrently. Gattis also received three years for one conviction of using a firearm to commit a felony, which when added to the 55 from the murder convictions, results in a 58-year sentence. Two other firearms charges were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.…
