Bird high, to the maroon and orange at Tech, [I’ve] been waiting for this moment,” Clarke said. “#foryoumom.” On his big day, Clarke paid tribute to his mother, Deborah who lost her battle with cancer with Deon was just nine years old. The former Skyhawk started 24…

Thomas Dale wide receiver Brian Bullock, an athlete with Division I potential, will start his college career at Lackawanna Community College in Pennsylvania, joining two other former Knights in Eric Finney and Khalid Morris and a former rival in Daijaune Dorsey (L.C. Bird). “He’s the best wide receiver to play at Dale next to Ricky Hall and James Dean who went on to play in NFL Europe,” coach Kevin Tucker said. “He was a game changer that could take over any game.” Bullock was an elite talent at wide out for Thomas Dale, and his play-making ability was a big…

L.C. Bird standout football player Isaiah Moore picked up his third offer this week from the Naval Academy. Moore has previously been offered a place by Army, ironically Navy’s biggest rival, and Old Dominion University. The linebacker has also visited several other colleges and should see more offers in the coming weeks. Alongside Virginia Tech commit Rayshard Ashby, the set of linebackers will be a feared duo heading into next season for the Skyhawks. This past year, Moore was named to the 5A South Second Team for his role in L.C. Bird’s formidable defense.

L.C. Bird running back Shedrick McCall (6-1, 245) pulled in his first of what should be many college offers this week when Old Dominion extended a scholarship to him. A recent visit to James Madison University is the first of many planned visited for the rising senior – he has been invited to visit the campuses of Purdue, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Richmond, East Carolina and North Carolina State, according to this father. McCall was primarily the reserve running back for coach David Bedwell in 2015 behind senior J.B. Wright. On just 81 carries, McCall rushed for 733…

Former Matoaca standout Aaron Monts attended Richmond Christian last year. No matter what school he attended, there was little doubt that he’d be a college-level running back. He committed to Virginia State this past week. “The atmosphere and scholarship this there,” Monts said. “There’s a great chance of playing early.” Monts was an integral part of Pat Manuel’s offense in 2013 as a part of a backfield by committee where he played solidly. Then, the athlete transferred to Richmond Christian’s program in 2014. “My grades went up tremendously and I continued my development as a running back,” said Monts. The…

Since he stepped on the field at L.C. Bird, Rayshard Ashby has been one of the most dominant players in the Central Region. The linebacker, winner of two state championships and headed into his senior season made his college choice; Virginia Tech. The choice came this past weekend on a visit to campus. “I wasn’t even planning on committing,” Ashby said. “I had thought about committing over the summer and it was going to be between Marshall, Maryland and Virginia Tech. I got a gut feeling and I went for it.” The commitment came after a conversation with Bud Foster…

Recently, rising senior linebackers Rayshard Ashby and Isaiah Moore’s recruiting stocks have increased. Ashby picked up yet another offer and perhaps his most significant from West Virginia, a school now in the Big 12 conference. The Mountaineers join what should be a growing list for a player who swept virtually every possible award last season- Conference 12 and 5A South Defensive Player of the Year, VHSL All-State, All-Metro Defensive Player of the year, Virginia Preps first team all-star, USA Today first team all-state and RVA Game Break Player of the Year. WVU joins Marshall, Maryland, James Madison, Virginia Tech and…

Thomas Dale two-way football standout Max Evans recently announced he will attend Chowan University this fall. Evans’s senior year at Thomas Dale was his first on the gridiron. The 6-5, 260 pound all-around athlete originally chose to pursue a career in basketball. According to Max, it did not take long for him to realize his true calling. “I always loved the two sports but enjoyed basketball more,” he said. “When I played in my first varsity scrimmage I found out I had made the wrong decision.” All ends lead only to new beginnings. Max’s realization on the hardwood was the…
