2020 U.S. Masters Swimming Summer National Championshi to be in Chesterfield SwimRVA will host the 2020 U.S. Masters Swimming Summer National Championship after successfully winning a bid for the competition.An estimated 1,200 of the nation’s best adult swimmers will compete in the August 2020 event, which will be held in SwimRVA’s Chesterfield County facility. This is the first time a U.S. Masters Swimming national competition will be held in Virginia. As part of the bid, SwimRVA installed new starting blocks, and it will add an above-ground warm-up pool during the competition. While football players from the 804 have had a great summer, no school has benefited from those athletes more than the Naval Academy. Recently, Thomas Dale offensive guard Talvis Robinson became the third local athlete to pledge service, behind Benedictine running back Caleb Grimes and Glen Allen’s Jebril Murray. “I felt comfortable with the coaches and the campus and the other recruits,” said Robinson. Former L.C. Bird quarterback Terrence Ervin has transferred from Louisburg College to Johnson C. Smith University. There were many reasons as to why Ervin chose to play at the CIAA institution. “I have a great relationship with the head coach and I feel like it was the best fit for me,” said Ervin. While with Norfolk State his first year, Ervin would play all 12 games, with his best game coming against Hampton as he threw for 335 yards and three touchdowns. L.C. Bird basketball doesn’t rebuild, it reloads. After losing a considerable amount of talent from last year’s state championship team, the Skyhawks will now bring in a new crop of talent. In the final, Zion Ross batted .692 for the tournament, blasting five home runs and driving in ten runs, winning the triple crown in each major offensive category. Former Longwood women’s basketball standout Eboni Gilliam has signed a contract to continue her basketball career in Spain, signing with Club Naticio Terrassa in the Spanish city of Terrassa. “Eboni has worked extremely hard for this opportunity,” said Longwood head coach Bill Reinson. “When we recruited her, she said that playing professionally overseas was something she wanted to accomplish. Eboni never lost sight of that goal. In addition to playing basketball, Eboni will enjoy Spain. It is a wonderful country with a terrific culture and warm, friendly people. The next player to join that list might very well be rising senior Devonte Chandler. The 5-11, 218-pound linebacker has now garnered eight offers: Army, Navy, Morgan State, UVa-Wise, Elon, West Virginia Wesleyan, Saint Francis (Pa.), and William & Mary, with the latter two being the most recent. Boys’ Track and Field Athlete of the Year Aaron Lewis, L.C. Bird Aaron Lewis, a junior at L.C. Bird helped lead a Skyhawk team loaded with talent in all facets. Lewis ran some sprint events and was part of the 1,600-meter relay team throughout the year, but he shone brightest in hurdling events, particularly the 300. At the Conference 12 championship meet, Lewis impressed by finishing fifth in the 110-meter hurdle finals.
