Thomas Dale Boys By Jamal Davis Last season the boys’ basketball team at Thomas Dale finished with a 9-13 record. While that may not be where it wanted to be, it was an improvement over the year before. The Knights hope to continue to improve this season under head coach Braxton Byerson, a former standout athlete at Thomas Dale himself. Unfortunately, the Knights will be forced to do so without the help of their best player from a season ago, point guard Elijah Gregory. Even without Gregory, Byerson believes his squad is well equipped to fill the void. Projected Starting Five: G James…

It was the big game for little league football players last Saturday. Eight teams played beginning at 10 a.m. with the Minors in the Chesterfield Quarterback League Superbowl. The league is celebrating 60 years and is the oldest little league association in the state of Virginia. It was Scott Scorpions against Spring Run Huskies. Scott Minors hit the field with eight wins and zero losses and they were not about to lose the Superbowl game. Down to the last few minutes with the score 13 to 12 in Scorpions favor, No. 4, Shamari Earls made his third touchdown in the…

By Josh Mathews The bigger they are, the harder they ball. Jyles Webster stands 6-6 and weighs 215 pounds and that’s not even the most impressive thing about him; his deceptive court speed and athleticism are comparable to that of a point guard. The Skyhawks are a highly renowned basketball team in the RVA area, and Webster plays a big role. He has an incredible range of abilities on the court, and his constant effort has been rewarded him with an offer to play basketball at the next level. The forward has recently decided that he will take his gifts to…

Highland Springs 34 L.C. Bird 20 By Josh Mathews As Highland Springs started its defense of the 5A state title, the team knew it would take a complete effort on both sides of the football. That’s what the Springers made against the visiting L.C. Bird. Up 17-14, quarterback James Carney had already thrown two touchdowns to Nasir Hines. The junior backup QB held his own in his first start, with signal-caller Woody Winborn sidelined by injury. The Hermitage defense forced three straight punts as well, and L.C. Bird was struggling on offense. That…

Thomas Dale 36 Matoaca 21 By Zach Long – In a regular season finale with playoff implications, Thomas Dale downed Matoaca 36-21. The game looked to be a tight battle, as the score was 14-14 at halftime. However, the game ended up being a tale of two halves. With numerous injuries to key players, the Knights needed someone to step up, and Gabe McCollin did more than just that. The backup quarterback and running back exploded for three touchdowns in the second half. He ended the night with 90 yards receiving, 70 yards rushing, and 15 yards passing. Coach Kevin…
