Matoaca’s Jordan Carpenter After an impressive season, Matoaca’s forward Jordan Carpenter earned second team all-state honors for class 5.  At 5-9, the senior averaged a double-double this season with 11.5 points, and 12.9 rebounds per game. Not only was she a good player for the Warriors on offense, but she was also an outstanding defender. On the defensive end she averaged 4.7 steals, and 5.2 blocks a game. The 5-9 forward reeled in another this past week, this time from in-state Virginia Union. “Jordan is a communicator, defensive player, and leader,” said Matoaca girls’ basketball coach Glenna Lewis. Carpenter averaged 11.5 points per game, 12.9 rebounds per game, and 5.2 blocks per game in her senior season. By Walter Scott Jr. A season to remember has ended with an accolade to remember for Thomas Dale guard Kylon Lewis. The junior earned VHSL All-State Class 6 second team honors. At 6-4 and 170 pounds, Lewis was phenomenal for the Knights. His talent helped the team to their first region title in 19 years and a state tournament appearance. On the year, Lewis averaged 15.9 points and 3.1 assists per game. Lewis was a part of the 2018-19 team that won just five games. His play and development on the court helped drive Dale to 20 wins in 2019-20. …

With his ability, Lewis has also previously received offers from William & Mary, Massachusetts, and Navy. In his junior season, Lewis had 672 all-purpose yards with five touchdown receptions and six total touchdowns. On the defensive end, he had 16 tackles and one interception. BY LUKE KRAUSSE Judah Jones, who is primarily a defensive player, made his decision to play at North Carolina Wesleyan. The 5-11, 175-pound senior played both outside linebacker and free safety. In the 2019 season, he had 103 tackles, four sacks, one interception, and one fumble recovery. He was one of the best linebackers in the region. Jones is also a big time hitter who makes plays in the backfield, recording 10 tackles for loss last season.
