By Luke Krausse Coleman adds a second offer to his resume Jacob Coleman, a standout for Matoaca, received an offer this week, his second, from the University of Massachusetts. “Jacob is a huge piece of what we do,” said Matoaca football head coach Justin Parker. “He helps a lot on offense and defense; he is an unselfish teammate and leader over the past year.” The 6-3, 210-pound junior has played many different positions including wide receiver, tight end, punter and defensive back. Bird standout Mykey Anderson is set to transfer at the collegiate level.  Anderson was a part of UVA Wise’s roster for one season.   As a senior at Bird, Anderson received accolades for his play on offense, defense, and special teams. On defense he totaled 32 tackles and four interceptions, while on offense Anderson had over 500 total yards and four touchdowns to help Bird to a 7-3 season in 2018. “Mykey Anderson is a dynamic football player,” said L.C. The 6-3, 270 pound senior has committed to play at Hampden-Sydney. “T.J. Recently, two L.C. Bird alums reached the 1,000 point plateau during their respective college careers. Those athletes were guard Malik Johnson, who attends Canisius, and forward Keke Williams who is a student-athlete at St. Augustine University. Malik Johnson Johnson started his high school career at L.C. Bird, but transferred to Blue Ridge School. The speedy guard has been a constant force for the Golden Griffins since his arrival. In each of his four seasons, he’s increased his output in all major statistics- points scored, rebounds, assists and steals. Though 25 games in his senior season, he’s filling the stat sheet…

What makes a team that won five games last season win 17 games a year later with nearly the same personnel? One word: “Ubuntu.” When Thomas Dale hired coach Keyode Rogers last June, athletic director Ricky Talman knew that a culture change was needed.
