By Walter Scott Jr. Life is different now. It’s affected everyone, and the Thomas Dale’s boys’ lacrosse team is no different. The team was poised to have what the school hoped to be a championship season, but COVID-19 ended the run before it started. The roster, loaded with 18 seniors, will never know what could have been. The brotherhood of athletes may never share the same field again. “It’s really heartbreaking to have so many players lose out on such a special season,” said coach Paul Amos. “The one thing about the players that stood out is not that they…

Jonathan Pope Thomas Dale High School lacrosse has seen steady growth since coach Paul Amos helped start the program in 2013. Having players like Jonathan Pope, who was named the 2019 Village News boys lacrosse Player of the Year, certainly helps the cause. This year, the Knights made their third regional semifinal appearance after a first-round victory over Riverbend. Pope, a senior, who was called “a complete two-way midfielder” by his coach, was a big part of the team’s success in their 9-6 campaign. “He leads by example,” Amos said. “He is one of the toughest kids that I have…

With summer on the forefront of students’ minds, there is still business to be done in the classrooms and on the athletic fields. Several Chester-area teams performed well and went to regional play. Bird softball advanced to regionals. The Monarchs defeated Prince George 5-0 Thursday for their third victory over the Royals this season. The recently crowned Conference 12 Player of the Year, Juan Carlos Escobar, got a hat trick,…

For a program that’s been in existence for just three years, Thomas Dale boys’ lacrosse has given the student body something to cheer about. The best part is, it’s based around what coach Paul Amos called a group of good kids who are leaders. The Knights have an 8-3 record as of a press time, with losses coming to programs that are around 20 years older than theirs, James River and Midlothian. However, Thomas Dale is gunning for the Rapids in a Conference 3 and 6A South race that will very likely call for Thomas Dale to beat James River…

Thomas Dale’s first season of lacrosse was a success. Both the boys and girls teams were formed from the bottom up and both had success as teams, coupled with many individual successes. This year, it’s for real, these games count. 2015 marks the first season that the Knights will play Virginia High School League lacrosse and excitement has come with that accomplishment. “It’s starting to be talked about like any other sport,” said Latzi Ballint, a senior midfielder and team captain. “We’re not just playing in some park, we’re playing under the lights with our school’s name on our chests.”…
