Rising senior Jeremiah Wilks has seen an uptick of interest in his services over the last couple of months. Now, they’ve built one of the best programs in the state, and they are once again expected to contend. Sophomore Jayson Ward ranked first in the state in both the 300 and 500 meters. It’s been well documented that L.C. Bird High School’s boys track program has sustained success at a very high level, with the Skyhawks having won two consecutive indoor and outdoor championships. Four straight state championships don’t come without talent, and talent is rarely missed when it comes to college scholarships. L.C. Bird High School’s boys track team celebrated sending three athletes to the next level recently. Twins Jeremiah Hill and Josiah Hill are going to Hampton University, and Shahmique Crowell will head west to Longwood University. That’s three Division I scholarships for the program. The Hill twins, who have teamed up on just about everything in their lives, teamed up on state-championship-caliber 4×800-meter-relay teams together. When L.C. Bird High School won the boys’ indoor state championship this winter, they did it with balance throughout the team. While only one athlete won an event, they piled up the points to win the title as a team. Ten-year coaching veteran Adam Canning said that he’s seen much improvement in his team in the past few seasons, and it showed in a big way. L.C. Bird High’s track program has made for many discussion points recently, especially since coach Adam Canning and the Skyhawks brought home the school’s first-ever state track championship this past indoor season. The Penn Relays is one of the biggest events on the East Coast, and a team of 10 athletes was brought by L.C. Bird to Philadelphia to compete.
