Commonwealth Book Club enters its sixth year

The Commonwealth Book Club began its sixth year last Saturday, when eight members gathered at the Meadowdale Library to discuss the U.S. Supreme Court. The book club, which began with a 2005 op-ed column in the Village News, has consistently devoted itself to the discussion of serious non-fiction, including books, current events, science, politics, social issues, the environment, and history.

Arline McGuire’s hardwork and dedication leads her to a lifetime of success

Dignified, astute, persevering; words that describe Mary Arline McGuire who spent 43 years serving Chesterfield County government. Beginning her career as deputy treasurer, Ms. McGuire worked hard to reach chief treasurer and in 1979 broke the glass ceiling by being the first woman elected to a Constitutional office - Treasurer.

Seniors explore passions through Adventures in Learning

Old dogs may resist learning new tricks, but starting this Wednesday, humans of “a certain age” will gather at the Chester Baptist Church for the latest session of Adventures in Learning (AIL), the educational program of the Shepherd’s Center of Chesterfield.

Pocahontas visitors take advantage of great weather for a New Year day hike

Pocahontas State Park welcomed hundreds of visitors on the first day of the New Year. With mild temperatures and lots of sunshine, individuals and families enjoyed casual walks and mountain biking through the various trails located in the park.
