It’s been a busy summer for the boys of Safety Word Orange. The Richmond-based band recently completed the third in a string of summer tours and performed at the Vans Warped Tour in Virginia Beach, according to drummer Travis King, a Chester native.
To the children of Primrose School at Ironbridge Corner, the hungry and homeless don’t always walk on two legs; sometimes, they bark or meow. A little over nine years ago, a small group of Chester residents sat around a table and brainstormed about how to bring the community closer together in light of an expanding population and a citizenry that was becoming busier by the day.
Several local residents were among the 450 dental volunteers – including 125 students – at the Virginia Dental Health Foundation’s Mission of Mercy project in Wise County, Va., last month.

Over the years, lifelong Chester resident Otha Lee Taylor, 73, has witnessed many changes on a one-mile stretch of road that included his family’s 9.3 acres and home, which faced the road known to the locals as “the Pike” or the 301(Jefferson Davis Highway).
