Veterans Day: a long and honored history

Veterans Day on November 11, is a day of remembrance for the life-threatening dedication our troops have made serving in war and at home. But Veterans Day, previously Remembrance Day, which overlapped Armistice Day also on November 11, was the original day that those at home honored U.S. servicemen.

First Baptist Church presents knockout concert

First Baptist Church Centralia brought the Small Richmond Symphony to their church, even building a special stage in the sanctuary. Wilson E. B. Shannon, Pastor, said that the acoustics were phenomenal. A reception prior to the concert was held at the Chesterfield Center for the Arts Foundation (CCAF).

Good News by way of a Cowboy Church has galloped in to the Beaver Hollow Farm, bringing hope and encouragement to people whose comfortable connection with the earth gives them a place to connect with God and not worry about what they wear or drive.

Local man salutes his fallen relative

Waverly Drewry Pride, former Chester resident now living in Colonial Heights submitted an obituary found in a 1918 newspaper clipping for his second cousin who was the first resident of Chesterfield to die in World War I on August 2, 1918. Remembering Nathan Pride on Veterans Day.

Wawa celebrates 10th years at three locations

Wawa, Inc. celebrated the 10th anniversary of three of their Virginia stores, two in Chesterfield at 11701 Jefferson Davis Hwy. and 15840 Jefferson Davis Hwy and one in Colonial Heights at 604 Boulevard. To honor the special anniversaries, Wawa hosted three family reunion-style in-store celebrations.

John Tyler Community College to Hold Veterans Day Ceremony

The community is invited to join John Tyler Community College’s faculty, staff and students as they honor past and present members of the armed services during the College’s annual Veterans Day ceremony.

VETS: Poplar Grove National Cemetery Annual Luminary Event

On Saturday, Nov. 10, Petersburg National Battlefield will honor veterans, past and present, by literally shedding light on the gravesites of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in order to defend their country. The 7th Annual Luminary program will take place at Poplar Grove National Cemetery. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. and ends at 8 p.m.
