Carlton St. Clair Hassell, Jr., L. C. Bird High School senior class president, summed up his classmates best while putting his sunglasses on saying, “Our future is so bright we will need sunglasses to see it.” Hassell welcomed graduates, families and guest during the Thirty-Third Commencement Exercises for the 2012 graduating class last Friday, June 8, at 2:30 p.m., in the Stuart C. Siegel Center at Virginia Commonwealth University.
The top of the Class of 2012 for Matoaca High School was so close that determination was not made until after the programs had been printed. The Matoaca High School Commencement Exercises were held Monday, June 11 at 10 a.m. in the Verizon Wireless Arena Stuart C. Siegel Center at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Clayton Hall, Thomas Dale High School’s senior Class president, conducted his final meeting of the senior class during the opening of the 104th Commencement for the Class of 2012, Wednesday, June 8 at 7 p.m. His remarks of the accomplishments made during the year for the seniors kicked-off the exercises on a high note for the 548 graduating seniors.
Every student wants to think they are special - and they are - in their own way. Meadowbrook High School celebrated 80-plus students last Tuesday who had been singled out more than once as a “Student of the Month” during the Student of the Month Year-End Celebration.
Twelve tires and rolls and rolls of duct tape, and the Taiko ensemble at Meadowbrook High School was born. Japanese Club members caught on to the technique and were well-prepared for the two songs they performed during the International Flag Ceremony.
A pink dogwood tree has been planted behind C.C. Wells Elementary School in memory of former student Johnae Carol Ann Mayo (6/23/97 - 1/6/12), who passed away at the age of 14. This lively young lady attended Wells from second- through fifthgrade, and her cheerful disposition and friendly greetings spread joy to her teachers and classmates.
