Chesterfield County Public Schools is launching a community newsletter to share information about the county’s 62 schools. The first newsletter will be emailed tomorrow to families, school partners and community members.
Virginia today honored 17 Chesterfield schools with Virginia Index of Performance awards, with three of those schools winning the highest honor, the Governor’s Award for Educational Excellence.
The Southside Virginia Chapter of Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) will make available Roper Memorial Scholarships for selected high school seniors. These scholarships have been awarded annually since 1997 to applicants from high schools in the Fort Lee and surrounding Southside Virginia areas.
Guest speaker Torski Dobson-Arnold visited Matoaca High School Thursday, Jan. 5, presenting assemblies for students and staff introducing the Rachel’s Challenge Program established by the family of Rachel Joy Scott, the first student to die in the Columbine High School tragedy.

Heidi Martin, a sophomore majoring in biology, from Chesterfield, made the Dean’s List for the fall semester at Bridgewater College. Dr. Carol A. Scheppard, vice president and dean for academic affairs, last week announced the list of those who excelled academically.
Chesterfield Technical Centers’ Dental Occupations 1 and 2 classes held their third annual Dental Clinic for Victoria Elementary and Kenbridge Elementary Schools in November.
Four additional Chesterfield teachers have achieved National Board certification, which is one of the highest credentials in education, and two National Board Certified Teachers have renewed their certification. They will be honored during a regional pinning ceremony at 5 p.m. Jan. 12 at Virginia Commonwealth University in the W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, 922 Park Ave.
