Six from Chester named to Radford University Dean’s List

Six Chester residents have been named to the spring semester Dean’s List at Radford University.

School Board, educators meet, revise 2020 plan

Just ten days after the Chesterfield County School Board invited the public to voice their recommendations to the “Design for Excellence 2020” document, the Board met with a consulting team Friday to revise the plan – one that if adopted by the Board will direct the direction of the school system for the rest of the decade, officially going into effect September 2012.

Free engineering, math and science summer camps for girls

Girls entering the seventh or eighth grade can sign up now for GEMS (Girls in Engineering, Mathematics, and Science), a free summer camp at Bird High School which gives middle school girls experience in the fields of mathematics, engineering and science, in two sessions : (1) July 11-15; (2) July 18-22.

Cadet First Class Graham S. Sherman of Chester is one of 229 cadets that graduated May 25 from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering.

Carver to perform Dr. Seuss musical this weekend

Six months after delivering a double-feature performance to a filled auditorium of community members, the theatre group at Carver Middle is once again itching to do their magic on stage; only this spring the group is performing a musical – “Seussical, Jr.,” a dramatized interweaving of numerous books written by the world-acclaimed author Dr. Seuss – Friday May, 6 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, May 7 at 2 p.m. in the Carver auditorium.

Ettrick Elementary Student of the Year Banquet

Ettrick Elementary held its Student of the Year Banquet Thursday, March 31. Community High School students catered the event. Chef Dana Byerson and his staff from Community High School served a delicious meal of baked chicken, macaroni and cheese, green beans, tossed salad and dinner rolls.
