Students participate in model African Union

Virginia State University participated in the Ninth Annual Model African Union Conference held at Howard University in Washington, D.C. last week. A student delegation represented the country of Comoros during the simulated proceedings of the African Union.

Chester Resident Andre Tolleris Advances to State Bee

Matoaca Middle School eighth grader Andre Tolleris has advanced to the finals of the 2011 Virginia Geography Bee. Andre is the son of David and Christine Tolleris.

“The Tempest” to be performed at Henricus April 1-3

Thomas Dale High School will present an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play “The Tempest” at Henricus Historical Park on April 1, 2, and 3 at 3:00 p.m. each day. The play is being presented in celebration of the 400th anniversary of the arrival of Sir Thomas Dale in the Virginia colony and his founding of the settlement at Henricus.

Ellen Jane Ayers and April Heather Murray of Chester graduated from Radford University at the end of the fall semester.

Kendahl Kean is Radford honors student

Kendahl Renae Kean, a Thomas Dale High School 2009 honors graduate attending Radford University is an honors sophomore in pre-nursing. She has had a perfect 4.0 grade point average and has been on the dean’s list since starting at Radford in August 2009.

Working out the kinks in the nation’s capitol

The L.C. Bird High School’s FIRST Robotics team Robohawks participated over the weekend in the FIRST Robotics Competition D.C. Regional in the nation’s capital. Team mentor Nancy Hoover said the team faced an uphill challenge because their robot had not been fully tested.

Phillips recognized for hardwork, leadership

Emily Phillips, a member of the Health Science Specialty Center at Cosby High School was recognized and presented with a $1,000 scholarship during Chesterfield County’s 2011 Black History Month Business Breakfast Celebration.

College announces "President’s List" of top academic honors

Students from throughout Chesterfield were named to the “President’s List” at Bryant & Stratton College’s recent academic awards convocation. The President’s List represents full-time students who earned grade-point averages of 4.00 during the semester.
