They’re not police officers, rescue workers or firefighters, but, usually behind the scenes and often after hours, they work to keep life running smoothly in Chesterfield. Wilbert Boyd, Jr., a senior labor crew chief in the water distribution’s operations and maintenance section, helps maintain Chesterfield County’s water system. He’s been with the county 13 years.
Three neighbors huddled over a map showing a third rail being added along the CSX rail line in Chester. The Chester Station subdivision residents focused on a thin green line that ran adjacent to the existing rail line and through their backyards.
After a lengthy public hearing last week, the Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to deny a request from Shoosmith Bros. Inc. that would have allowed the company to bring out-of-state waste into the section of the landfill permitted in 1997.
Local ground metal artist Steven Lloyd will be exhibiting at the Chester Library this month. His works will be on display throughout the month of September. An opening reception for Lloyd will be held from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 4. The event will be sponsored by the Chesterfield Center for the Arts Foundation.
Area students Caitlin Schoemmell and Alia Fagerburg recently competed at the Southern Regional 4-H Horse Championships in Clemson, S.C., according to information from Julie Grimes. The two represented Classic Equestrians 4-H, led by Gaynor Hay and Andrea Gerhard.
Between stops at vendor booths and snack stands, ChesterFest attendees can take in performances from a host of entertainment acts, including The Chiggers, a Chester-based band.
An area church sent out more than 600 volunteers to local schools on Saturday, Aug. 21, to complete projects that this year’s school budgets won’t cover.
