The Board of Supervisors voted last week to hold a public hearing on June 23 on the Planning Commission’s recent finding that the conversion of Chester Middle School to a ninth-grade academy is in compliance with the comprehensive plan.
Only one candidate shows up for delegate debate in 27th District
What if they planned a debate and only one candidate showed up? One candidate would get to answer all the questions without argument. That’s what happened Tuesday, May 25, when the Chesterfield Business Council and the Chesterfield County Council of PTAs sponsored a debate between the two candidates running for the House of Delegates seat in the 27th District recently vacated by Sam Nixon.
Construction on American Family Fitness begins
It’s been just about a year since American Family Fitness was granted a zoning amendment to upfit the old Kroger Supermarket on South Chalkley Road adjacent to Walmart. Last week The Trent Corporation, a Richmond commercial contractor, began work on the project, removing debris from the building so construction could begin.
CCPS employees to receive one-time pay bump
The School Board last week unanimously approved using about $6.5 million in projected savings in the current fiscal year to fund one-time payouts to employees equal to 2 percent of their current salaries.

The Courthouse Relay For Life will begin Saturday, June 5, at 10 a.m. and run until 8 a.m. Sunday at L.C. Bird High School.
Davis Middle student wins PTA’s Reflection contest
Kayla Narron, a seventh grade student at Elizabeth Davis Middle School in Chesterfield County, has won the PTA’s Reflection contest. The contest honors excellence in arts in school; Kayla’s entry was in dance and chorography. She won at the middle school, county, district and state levels. Her piece is now entered at the national level.
Chesterfield graduations set for June 9-12
More than 4,100 Chesterfield County students will receive their high school diplomas during graduation ceremonies June 9-12 at VCU’s Siegel Center.
