A “barrier-free” playground officially opened on Saturday, June 19, at the Bird Athletic Complex, located at 10401 Courthouse Road, according to information from the county. The community was invited to a ribbon-cutting ceremony that morning.
Adam Francis Robert White, a sophomore at L.C. Bird High School, was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout during a Court of Honor held on June 21, according to information from Carlton Meeks.

More than 50 local scholars were named to the dean’s list at Virginia Tech for the spring 2010 semester, according to information from the school. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must attempt at least 12 credit hours graded on the A-F option and earn a 3.4 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) during the semester.
Registration for fall 2010 classes at John Tyler Community College will begin July 12 and run through Aug. 20, according to information from the school. The Lucy Corr Foundation will sponsor a 5K Run for the Future on Saturday, July 17, at 8 a.m. at 6800 Lucy Corr Blvd., near the Chesterfield County government complex. Registration packet pick-up will begin at 7 a.m. The 5K Run for the Future includes a flat-loop course in the Courthouse area for runners, as well as a 2.5K scenic trail for walkers.
