At the tailgate

0

Hello and welcome back the wonderful world of the Dogpound. A couple of weekends ago I got the opportunity to attend, for the first time, a Chicago Bears football game at Soldier Field. Our host picked us from the hotel, and he was loaded down with tailgate goodies: barbecue brisket, chicken wings, pulled pork, baked beans and mac and cheese. So by the time we got to the stadium, we had a good dose of “essence of barbecue” on our clothes. I offered to carry the goodies that were stored in a caterer’s insulated soft bag with straps. I did…

She is the physical education teacher at C.C. Wells Elementary, but McDorman started out teaching second grade at W.W. Gordon Elementary 12 years ago. After nine years at Gordon, McDorman was ready for something new, but she was not sure if she wanted to do a different grade level. A colleague suggested that she would like PE because she had always been active with her classes. McDorman has been at Wells for three years. Although she…

Sirens wailing, red or blue lights flashing: what is happening? Now the general public can check for themselves thanks to an upgrade on the county’s website, the first since 2009. “The idea was developed as several departments in the region prepared for radio encryption,” said Elizabeth Caroon, spokesman for Chesterfield County Police Department. “We saw this as a good way to keep the public informed about real-time police activities once radio traffic was encrypted. Some other area agencies have similar sites.” Fire and EMS incidents are also available. “With the new radio system, the police department went to encryption for…
