0

The public is invited to attend an informational meeting about a revamped Harrowgate Park from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11 at Carver Middle School, 3800 Cougar Trail, in Chester. This meeting is to present the conceptual development plan for the new Harrowgate Park. The new park was briefly discussed at the previous community meetings held this past spring. Those meetings addressed the proposed zoning of a nearby site by the Chesterfield Economic Development Authority which included the east-west freeway and school board-related project for the Harrowgate Elementary School relocation. Because of the relocation of the new elementary school…

On Monday, Chesterfield police spokeswoman Liz Caroon said the four officers who were on scene at the time the Taser was deployed…

Several residents were upset when they saw a large red oak tree off Harrowgate Road being cut down Friday. The tree was on property owned by Chester United Methodist Church. A pastor at the church, the Rev. James Davis, said a large limb fell toward School Street after the tree was damaged in a recent storm. When the limb was inspected, it was full of ants and much of it was hollowed out, he…

Dogpound flying high

Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. Hope you had a nice long Labor Day weekend. I am writing this in advance so I have not enjoyed my three-day weekend, but I do have plans. I am going to Ohio to watch my Buckeyes start their new football season against Oregon State, less their head coach (who has been suspended for three games due to his failure to report alleged spousal abuse by one of his coaches that happened several years ago). As of this writing, I am eight days away from that big weekend. However,…

They say there’s no “I” in team, and while that’s true, an individual player can make all the difference in the world for a team. L.C. Bird High School got Virginia Tech commit Jaden Payoute back, plugged him in at quarterback and reaped immediate benefits, as he accounted for 154 yards and three touchdowns on the ground when the Skyhawks took the Battle of Chester last Friday night over Thomas Dale High, 32-20. “Having him [Payoute] able to run the…

No pastor yet

When I first became the pastor of the church that I have led since 2005, a trusted friend and co-laborer said to me, “You might be a preacher, but you are no pastor yet.” I did not completely understand that vote of confidence, but after these 13-plus years, I think that I now understand. In John 10, Jesus said, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.” In 1 Corinthians 9, the Apostle Paul said, “I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.” I have read…
