Man charged with assaulting child

Police have arrested a man who allegedly assaulted a child at a residence on Grand Oaks Forest Circle in Chester Aug. 14. At about 7:30 p.m. Aug. 15, police responded to the residence for reported child abuse. The investigation indicates that on Aug. 14, Carlus A. Tucker Jr., 25, intentionally suffocated an infant girl for an unknown period of time. When the child’s mother became aware of the assault Aug. 15, she called police. A Discount Tire store is planned for 12030 Jefferson Davis Highway on a vacant lot across from Moore’s Lake Road. Discount Tire Co. of Scottsdale, Ariz., is planning to build a 26-feet high, 7,680-square-foot building on 1.03 acres. The building would come with 34 parking spaces. The owner of the land is the John F. Alexander Exempt Trust. For cyclists, joggers and walkers who frequent the neighborhoods surrounding Thomas Dale High School, Melody McLean is a familiar face. On any given day in any kind of weather, neighbors can count on seeing her outside walking with a dog or two or three trotting along beside her. Sometimes, the dogs are McLean’s, but just as often they belong to friends and neighbors. “I love all animals, but dogs are probably my favorite,” she said. “I can’t imagine life without a dog.” McLean has four dogs. TDHS golfers defeat Dinwiddie

The Thomas Dale High School golf team downed Dinwiddie last week, 190-210, at the Meadowbrook Country Club. Jack Brockwell’s 39 was the medalist for the day on the nine-hole par 36 course. Other finishers for the Knights were: Anna White, 44, Nick Papakostas, 47, and Aliyah Kellum, 61. Cody Stanford led Dinwiddie with a 43.
