Matoaca girls volleyball breaks school’s drought

Matoaca girls’ volleyball, led by coach Tiara Boyd, accomplished a school first last Thursday when they defeated Glen Allen 3-2. The Warriors became the first team of any sport in school history to advance to a state tournament. Matoaca will face Atlee Wednesday, Nov. 8 in the first round of the Region 5 State Tournament. The team is led by senior setter Makenzy Johnson, a sure-fire candidate for 5A state player of the year and two standout juniors in Lani Mason and Lindsey Temple. The Old Dominion Chapter Modelers are pleased to announce that they will be open for extended hours during the Christmas Season. For four weekends starting Nov. 25 the huge HO model will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays for the viewing pleasure of adults and children. NASCAR Cup Series driver grand marshal of Christmas parade

Colonial Heights’ 65th annual Christmas parade is here once again, and the nighttime event will be held Dec. 5 this year. Gray Gaulding, a native of Colonial Heights and a Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Driver, will serve as the parade’s Grand Marshal. The parade, started by the Colonial Heights Optimist Club in 1953, is touted as a unique event that draws people from all over the Tri-Cities area. New children’s musical to be performed at Hickory Hill
