Living Safe: Does it matter?

My first assignment after boot camp, was the fire station at the USCG Training Center- Cape May N.J. One might wonder how people were chosen for those positions in 1981? For Mickey Conboy and me, it was because of our years as volunteer firefighters, Mickey in Dumont N.J. and me at Station 1 in Chester. I do not know if that is the greatest criteria for choosing firefighters, but our years as volunteers and our passion for the fire service obviously spoke louder than we did. For Mickey and me both, this time and experience led to two great careers…

Dale’s Robinson headed to Naval Academy

0

While football players from the 804 have had a great summer, no school has benefited from those athletes more than the Naval Academy. Recently, Thomas Dale offensive guard Talvis Robinson became the third local athlete to pledge service, behind Benedictine running back Caleb Grimes and Glen Allen’s Jebril Murray. “I felt comfortable with the coaches and the campus and the other recruits,” said Robinson. Since his freshman season, Robinson has made headlines just for his size. As a junior, he’s 6-2 and 295 pounds; over the past two seasons his play as caught up. Initially thought of as another version…

LCB’s Ervin to suit up for Golden Bulls

0

Former L.C. Bird quarterback Terrence Ervin has transferred from Louisburg College to Johnson C. Smith University. There were many reasons as to why Ervin chose to play at the CIAA institution. “I have a great relationship with the head coach and I feel like it was the best fit for me,” said Ervin. While with Norfolk State his first year, Ervin would play all 12 games, with his best game coming against Hampton as he threw for 335 yards and three touchdowns. He would transfer the next season to Louisburg, where he would split time at quarterback. He would throw…

LCB’s Chris Ford to reach senior year

0

L.C. Bird basketball doesn’t rebuild, it reloads. After losing a considerable amount of talent from last year’s state championship team, the Skyhawks will now bring in a new crop of talent. One of those players will be rising senior Chris Ford. Colleges have begun to take notice of Ford and his 6-8 frame this summer. As a member of the River City Reign’s travel team, Ford put his game on display and received offers from Norfolk State, Catawba, and Chowan. “Chris is a late bloomer, so his best basketball is ahead of him,” said L.C. Bird coach Troy Manns. “What Chris…

Dogpound eat and sleep

Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. It is hard to believe it is already August, and at times it is hard to believe what you find in my company’s break room. Note…most of the time it is “not” what their family refused to eat last night. LOL Many days the workers will bring in potluck to celebrate a birthday or just because it is a Friday….then others will just feel like making something and sharing it with everyone else. I went into the break room one morning to get my usual Diet Coke when I…
