As the heat rises

W e have just experienced our warmest days of spring 2017. As the heat rises, what do we need to be mindful of? The medical problems that come from high temperature and humidity will be much more prevalent than the fire problem, but we must consider both. With higher temperatures comes a greater workload on air conditioners, fans, and electrical systems in general. I will try to walk us through a few of these things that will, hopefully, prevent a fire and keep you and your family safe. Concerning your air conditioning units, they need a proper level of refrigerant…

Chester resident and 20-year Marine Corps veteran, James Wilson, last year was challenged by his military friends to participate, which promoted awareness for veteran suicide prevention. After Wilson participated, however, he felt like there was more he could do so he took it further by donating 22 hours of his time over 22 days to helping veterans. “I was still kind of aimless, just felt like there was something more that could be done so I went to the VA hospital and sat down with some of the older veterans that were sitting there that didn’t seem to have anybody…

I am hopeful for the fall, when my boy will start middle school, an entirely new chapter in our lives, and I am sad, because this is his last year of elementary school, and I am sorrowful because the time just flies by too…

Chester Lions gets a history lesson

0

During a recent Chester Lions Club meeting, Retired Army Maj. Gen. Merdith “Bo” Temple shared his insights into the life and accomplishments of George Washington.  The information Temple shared focused on Washington as a farmer, an innovator, and someone concerned with building the nation through commerce and trade, information  frequently left out of history books. Washington was primarily home-schooled and self-taught as a surveyor who inherited Mount Vernon, where initially tobacco was grown.  In 1753, Washington joined the battles of the French and Indian War on the northwest frontier, where he acquired much of his military acumen.  After the war,…
