Meadowbrook’s Braxton, Delaney get offered

0

In many cases, once an athlete gets their first scholarship offer, more are sure to come. Especially if they still have another full season to play. A pair of Meadowbrook football players have received their first invitation to play at the collegiate level. Dontez Braxton and Brandan Delaney have both received offers from UVA-Wise. Braxton, a 5-10, 165 pound defensive back, is a tough corner, and he had quite a junior season. In total he had 57 tackles, broke up 10 passes, made 5 tackles in the backfield, created a sack, and interception. Meadowbrook coach Adam Tiller expects some big…

It was a special day for Meadowbrook girls’ soccer this past Wednesday, as Adriana Rosales signed her National Letter of Intent to play at Randolph-Macon College. Rosales has been a key component for the Monarchs this year, scoring nine goals and adding four assists as a center midfielder. However, if you told Rosales shed be leading the Meadowbrook girls soccer team in the heart of the field two years ago, she’d pr obably give you a funny look. Believe it or not Rosales has only been playing soccer for about two years. Coach Joe Farrell didn’t even find out himself…

Water in the Dogpound

Hello and welcome back to the wonderful world of the Dogpound. Hope everyone had a very nice Mother’s Day…as for me,, things were a bit rough around the edges. For one thing I sprained my left wrist…how, you ask?? [ I was really kind of hoping you would not ask that question..lol. ] I sprained my wrist flushing the toilet…no lie! No idea how it happened…something I do daily without thinking twice about it, but somehow I over-extended my wrist…and ouch!! Now, that is the same hand where I have the lingering “jar-thumb”…so not sure if they are related events…but…

Cannons roared, guns rang out, troops dug earthworks fortifications. The Civil War had come to Chesterfield. Bermuda Hundred was now in the thick of it. Drewry’s Bluff was the scene of two battles and skirmishes broke out in the wood between Bermuda and Chester Station until the Confederates kept the Federal or Union forces “bottled up” on the Bemuda Peninsula. It’s been 153 years since forces from the North and South squared off. Even to this day, some people don’t agree on wh at it was fought for. On May 5, 1864, General Butler moved his entire army on a…

History of Mother’s Day: Anna Jarvis

0

Anna Jarvis is recognized as the founder of Mother’s Day in the U.S. Though she never married or had kids, she is also known as the Mother of Mothers Day, an apt title for the lady who worked hard to bestow honor on all mothers. Anna Jarvis got the inspiration of celebrating Mother’s Day in her childhood from her own mother, Anna Marie Reeves Jarvis. An activist and social worker, her mother used to express her desire that someday someone must honor all mothers, living and dead, and pay tribute to the contributions made by them. A loving daughter, Anna…
