Matoaca High Red Cross Club volunteers with Virginia Home

On Saturday April 29, members of the Matoaca High School American Red Cross Club and their sponsor volunteered at the Virginia Home Annual 5K Fun Walk. The Virginia Home is a private non profit providing nursing, therapeutic and residential care to adult Virginians with irreversible disabilities. This is the eight year the 5K Fun Walk has taken place, and the MAHS American Red Cross Club has volunteered each time. Carver Middle’s “crazy” challenge scheduled Carver Middle School’s seventh grade is hosting their “2nd Annual I’d Rather Be Crazy Than Lazy Challenge” on Thursday, June 1 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The event is free to everyone and is for all ages. The event will consist of various “Minute-To-Win-It” activities along with 30-second exercise stations with an element of “crazy” included. They invite everyone to come out and join the fun.

While politicians debate over what’s best for the country in terms of “going green,” Chesterfield County Techn ical Center students are simply finding solutions. With a $4,300 grant from Dominion Power, applied for by teacher Holly-Faye Jenkins, three students — David Maloy, Jaydon Matz and Randy San Pedro — learned set up what’s been dubbed the “green shack,” or a small, shed-sized dwelling that’s powered by solar energy. “To see what this idea has become this is absolutely amazing,” said Chesterfield County Schools Superintendent James Lane. For a program that’s been in existence for just three years, Thomas Dale boys’ lacrosse has given the student body something to cheer about. The best part is, it’s based around what coach Paul Amos called a group of good kids who are leaders.
