Middle School Mania

As we approach January, I have been hit with a realization. My boy is going to be starting middle school this year. I don’t know how we got to this point. I truly feel like it was just yesterday that he was walking into preschool without me, and not looking back. I remember feeling bereft then, knowing that he was beginning his own journey, one that did not include me. I know that sounds very dramatic, but in reality it’s true. The minute they leave you behind at the door of the preschool, they are starting a life of their…

Home, condominium and apartment builders have been fussing about cash proffers, (a fee added to each living unit to cover county infrastructure costs such as transportation, parks, schools, libraries and public safety.) Now the cash proffers have been cut in half. Until July 2016 the cash proffer greenbacks stacked to a maximum of $18,966 per dwelling. The roll of dough now that a builder now needs to offer Chesterfield is $9,400 maximum. The Richmond Times Dispatch quoted Bermuda District Supervisor Dorothy A. Jaeckle as saying the new policy was overdue and brings more fairness to the process. “We’re going to…

Greater Richmond ARC announces respite weekends schedule for people with disabilities

RICHMOND – Sean, 25, didn’t socialize much in high school, but respite weekends at the Greater Richmond ARC’s Camp Baker in Chesterfield now give him the chance. Sean truly enjoys his time with his Camp Baker buddies, according to his mom Teresa, who says it is a safe place where he gets a break from his daily household routine. Sean would be a “sadder, more moody person” without Camp Baker respite, she says. “It’s given him a sense of independence where he’s doing things on his own.” The Greater Richmond ARC’s Camp Baker will provide weekend respite for children and…
