0Meadowbrook Boys Harrison Lewis After a 11-12 season last year, Meadowbrook went into the off season with high hopes and the Monarchs continued to hold their heads high. The boys’ basketball team only lost four players due to graduation and were able to bring back most of the unit. Meadowbrook coach Jacob Oliver has a great foundation building at the Chesterfield County school and they should only improve each year to come. AAU season was a plus for Kylon Lewis
0Kylon Lewis, Class of 2021, point guard from Elizabeth Davis Middle School, played his lights out this summer during his AAU season averaging 22.6 points per game and 4.2 assist. The start of his Middle School season has been no different, so far Lewis leads the Davis Ravens in scoring, and third in the county already, as of right now he is living up to everyone’s expectations. Chesterfield County’s 55th Community Emergency Response Team Course Begins Jan. 4
0CHESTERFIELD COUNTY — Residents are encouraged to start the new year with training that will help prepare them for disasters and emergencies. Chesterfield County’s popular Community Emergency Response Team, or CERT, training is scheduled to begin on Jan. 4 and end on Feb. 15. The classes will be held in the Eanes Pittman Public Safety Center, Classroom 3, 6610 Public Safety Way, Chesterfield. The initial training course teaches basic emergency response skills that are essential in the critical moments after a disaster, before first responders arrive. Railroad museum members create new exhibits
0Members of the Old Dominion Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society have started creating new exhibits for use in the baggage room of that museum. The Board of Directors and the Museum Committe have designed several new, light-weight display panels to replace old, heavy, plywood folding screen type panels. Made by Richmond Signscapes and museum member Jennifer Tompkins, the new panels feature a background of “Southern Railway green” with the SR logo at the bottom in yellow. Safe Driving Experience in 3D
0Matoaca High School driver education students participated in “Cinema Drive,” an interactive 3-D safe driving experience Wednesday. Matoaca High is one of eight Virginia high schools to host the program, which is designed to help teen drivers with important highway decisions on the road. Students were provided with an interactive experience covering speeding, fatigue, seatbelt use, peer pressure, texting, and alcohol use as these elements relate to driving. The purpose of the program was to help students internalize the importance of their choices to drive safely and prevent crashes. 0As I travel around, I know it’s the holiday season. The Salvation Army bell ringers fill the air, parking lots are full, and parents are saying “I’m gonna tell Santa if you don’t be good.” Thankfully, I have matured past, or at least I am physically past, that last part.
