0On a crisp Saturday morning, the Matoaca High School American Red Cross Club, FBLA and TSA joined forces to beautify the school’s courtyards. These three clubs have been doing this for the last five years. Twenty-five students, one parent, four teachers, and one alumnus worked hard at weeding Oct. 15, clipping overgrown shrubs, and spreading landscape fabric and a lot of mulch to keep the courtyards beautiful for the entire school community to enjoy. “A hard job well done,” said Librarian Maureen Cheatham.
Phillips’ Senior Friends celebrates 20 years
0Who wants to make some new friends and have fun? Are you a senior? Then Phillips’ Seniors may be the group for you. This October, Phillips’ Seniors is celebrating 20 years. “The idea of having a senior group sponsored by the Phillips Auxiliary was an idea proposed by Polly Eggleston,” said Jackie Ferguson, Eggleston’s daughter and a member of Phillips’s Auxiliary. “She requested that the auxiliary think about the increased number of seniors in the community.” The auxiliary membership began discussing the outreach project and decided to sponsor a monthly luncheon and a senior-related program from September to June. Chester resident named American Geography Society fellow
0CHESTERFIELD – Chester resident and Cosby High teacher Anne Canipe has been named the 2016 American Geographical Society Teacher Fellow of the American Geographical Society (AGS). Canipe is one of 50 teachers selected from across the United States to participate in this first-year program. Ms. Canipe teaches Advanced Placement (AP) human geography and World History I honors, as well as medical law and ethics for Cosby High’s Health Science Specialty Center. Police arrest six suspects in Sept. double homicide
0CHESTERFIELD – The Chesterfield County Police Department has arrested six suspects in relation to a double homicide that occurred in the 15000 block of Chesdin Green Way Sept. 4. At about 1:50 a.m. officers responded to a reported shooting at a home under construction in the 15000 block of Chesdin Green Way. Upon arriving and checking the scene, police found two deceased victims with gunshot wounds. The victims were identified as Duval Turner Jr., 22, of the 100 block of East Roanoke Street in Richmond, and Marc Starkes, 24, of the 15900 block of Five Forks Road in Amelia. A…
